My mother caved into her tardy "midlife crisis" (as her sister calls it) and got an '11 Z4 M-Sport 30i 6MT. What a car. Heavy but incredibly nimble and rewarding, and really state of the art. I'm okay with a little tech if there is old world feel and a MT mixed in. Fantastic car and a good deal. SR20 to come... thanks to all who helped!

Convertible. It's a lot like a coupe with the hard top up, but it has a typical roadster feel (complete with marginal trunk space) with it down.

Friends don't let autotragedy happen to their friends! Change that friends term with children and parents, though; friends is quite inaccurate here... I'll try for a review. I'm trying to get her to let me drive the Blue Ridge pkwy in it, which would be amazing. Also, empty highways on the way there. The more you push it, the harder it begs to be pushed.

I would that spokesperson position very much. The underappreciation is rampant, with every mention of the car being in the context of "The E89 Z4 is more expensive than a Boxster!" For the record, it's cheaper on the used market, but it's still an unfair comparo.

I'd probably go for the Boxster if I were aching to drop $60k that I don't have, but this is my mom we're talking about (who almost bought an Acura ILX 2.4). My jaw dropped when she wanted to test drive the Z4, let alone buy the thing!

A heavy Civc Si is not exactly what you get by crashing a Boxter into a 3er, is it? I kind of had my eye on the future when advising on purchases here, although we're all entitled to a midlife crisis! I'm hoping in around 6 years I'll be able to get my hands on an Eisenmann axelback race exhaust, Schmiedmann headers, intake unit, some Bilstiens+H&Rs, and some internal changes. BBS RC in 18s or LMs would also have to be considered, as well as non-runflat tires. We can't forget a decent BBK, either! All of this would cost approximately... a shit ton. And this is if the car is in one piece. Anyways, that's what it would take to make it a Boxster slayer.

In the warranty office: "It costs $10,000 to hit a pothole, and wheel and tire insurance is the best thing I have ever done." Salesman, who just stepped in: "It has saved my ass more times than my ass doctor." Warranty guy: "I have an M3!" Next thing I know, I've found out everything about his M3 and my mom has signed up for every warranty for a car that's already out of budget... lol

Then if you don't sign up for the damned BMW care, they get tons of money every time you need a tire!

I'm a sucker for the Z4 coupe's bodystyle which I think is one of the best out there (at least before the current redesign). Even still though, I can't say the convertible is bad (with the top up)
